The news broke on Sunday afternoon. Kylian Mbappé will not be part of Real Madrid’s American summer tour, during which the Merengues will play three friendly matches, against AC Milan, FC Barcelona and Chelsea. Jude Bellingham, Dani Carvajal, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Eduardo Camavinga, among others, will also be absent from this American tour, still on vacation following their participation in the Euro.

While some Iberian publications explained that Kylian Mbappé was ready to cut short his vacation to go to America with his new teammates, the Real Madrid staff was not particularly keen and preferred that the French striker enjoy a few more days of rest after his busy season. And inevitably, this decision is causing a stir in the Spanish press.

A notable absence

“The white expedition will not count on the new recruit of this season, Kylian Mbappé, who will continue to enjoy his holidays with the rest of the internationals”underlines the daily Brand. Mbappé will therefore join the group on August 7. This is not necessarily a huge surprise, but many were really hoping to see him in action without having to wait until August 14 and this European Super Cup match against Atalanta.

As indicated Relevothis absence, coupled with that of Vinicius Jr also, has financial consequences for the club. While this first summer duel against AC Milan will be played in 3 days, there are more than 6,000 seats still to be sold in the Chicago stadium. Many Real Madrid fans on the American continent were waiting to see Mbappé at work, and are somewhat disappointed by his absence. “Football has essentially become a business, a spectacle and a commercial interest that would have required Mbappe to go on the White House tour of the United States to face Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea, but the initial decision is for the French star to rest”adds the newspaper The Debate. So we will have to wait a little longer…
