A few days before the start of Euro 2024 in Germany and some time after the formalization of his signing for Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé is the main actor in a documentary broadcast this Sunday evening on TF1. In this film retracing his entire career, former Arsenal coach Arsène Wenger did not hide his regrets at never being able to attract the young prodigy into the Gunners’ nets:
“It was a footballing shock, an obvious one too. What are you sitting down? Seeing the photo like that (a montage of Mbappé with the Arsenal jersey, editor’s note) hurts my heart a little. I went to his parents and tried to convince him. At the time, he was a little shy, people were starting to ask him for his first autographs in Monaco. At the beginning you don’t have too much pressure at the start and they managed to persuade him to extend it by promising him to play more easily at Monaco than at Arsenal, Liverpool or Real Madrid. We can say that his parents advised him well and that he made the right decision.
