After three years on the Barça bench, Xavi will no longer be the coach of the Catalan team next year. However, sporting results below the objectives set at the start of the season are not the only reasons for his dismissal. According to the Catalan daily Sport, the relationship between Xavi and Robert Lewandowski was not in good shape. Like many players (Marcos Alonso, Oriol Romeu, Joao Félix and Vítor Roque), the striker was one of Xavi’s undesirables for next season.
Xavi and his staff wanted a number 9 with a different profile, younger and above all more mobile. His relationship with young people was also called into question. Still according to the Catalan newspaper, Xavi criticized the Pole for not showing enough empathy. The choice of Hansi Flick as Xavi’s successor was directed in this direction, not least because the German coach knows Lewandowski well. The striker has never been as successful as when he was under Hansi Flick at Bayern.
