Paris Saint-Germain is moving forward on the file for its future number two goalkeeper. Matvey Safonov is getting closer.
In the space of just a few seasons, Paris Saint-Germain has managed to resolve one of its most recurring issues: the goalkeeper position. With Keylor Navas, the capital club finally had the one who allowed it to bring stability to this sector. But the recruitment of Gianluigi Donnarumma in the summer of 2021 shook things up and the Italian goalkeeper, who became a starter, shook up the order of things. But PSG is not completely satisfied and is looking for a competitor. He would have found, in the person of Matvey Safonov.
Luis Enrique was not satisfied with the performance of Arnau Tenas, Donnarumma’s current understudy, so he commissioned Parisian recruiters to find him a goalkeeper likely to compete with his current holder. According to RMC, it is therefore on the side of FK Krasnodar that the solution would have been found, in the person of Safonov. Russian international selected thirteen times, the twenty-five-year-old could therefore land at PSG this summer.
Tenas about to leave?
The amount of the possible transfer is estimated at around fifteen million euros according to the media, without forgetting the bonuses to be added to the total. It will then remain to be seen what Paris wants to do with Tenas who remains under contract until June 2026. Arriving free last summer, will the Spanish goalkeeper trained at FC Barcelona want to make things easier and leave? The idea of finding playing time elsewhere would not displease him. A loan could be considered.
In the meantime, Paris has resumed its usual quest for a goalkeeper, especially since this season, Gianluigi Donnarumma once again proved that, if he was one of the best goalkeepers in the world on his line, he was on the other hand still very much room for improvement in the kicking game. The probable arrival of Matvey Safonov could push him to improve.
