Zinedine Zidane could be one of the personalities who will carry the Olympic flame on its journey to Paris.
The Olympic flame will begin its great journey. This Saturday, she left Athens aboard the legendary three-masted ship Belem, which will return to Marseille on May 8. And it’s official since Friday, Florent Manaudou, gold medalist in London in 2012, will be the first torchbearer on French soil. It will therefore not be the child of the Marseille city, Zinedine Zidane, as certain rumors suggested.
On the other hand, the legend of French football could be one of the bearers of this Olympic flame on its journey to the Stade de France. Questioned on the subject this Saturday morning, Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra left the suspense hanging, announcing surprises to come.
“We have some surprises in store for you, it will be great”
“We have 69 days of relay ahead of us, it will be the longest in history. There will be a total of 10,000 torchbearers including great sportsmen and women. We have surprises in store for you, it will be great, you will not be disappointed. I don’t promise you anything », said the member of the government at the microphone of BFM TV.
And to add: “I say you have to enjoy each step. The relay will be magnificent. It will highlight our natural, historical, cultural, industrial and sporting heritage. It will honor exceptional personalities. Treat us! That’s it, the flame is French, it will soon be on our soil. » After its passage in Marseille, the Olympic flame will cross the country via the Antilles and French Polynesia, before arriving in Paris on July 26, the day of the opening ceremony of the Games.
