TF1 is currently in discussions with the LFP for TV rights to Ligue 1, according to RMC. The Téléfoot channel is interested in Lot 4, that of the Sunday morning program dedicated to the French championship.
TF1 and football, it’s not over. Despite the loss of World Cup rights for the 2026 and 2030 editions, recovered by M6, the first channel is currently in discussions with the LFP for TV rights to Ligue 1.
According to RMC, it is the rights to the Sunday morning show that would interest TF1. Currently, Téléfoot is obliged to buy images of the French championship from Prime Video to integrate them into the program presented each week by Grégoire Margotton. Becoming one of the official broadcasters of Ligue 1 would be a way for TF1 to strengthen the Téléfoot program.
The League in the midst of negotiations
After the failure of the first call for tenders, the LFP is currently in a phase of over-the-counter negotiations. The League therefore discusses with market players in order to find the best possible solution. TF1 would offer very good exposure to the championship, but the price proposed for this lot, Lot n°4 (a magazine broadcast on Sundays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.), would be lower than that hoped for by Vincent Labrune and his collaborators.
The LFP would also like to ensure that it does not sell a first batch without knowing who will collect the others. Let’s imagine that an actor like beIN Sports collects several Ligue 1 matches. To feed its soap opera, the channel could also be interested in this Sunday morning show.
