FC Barcelona has retained Roberto De Zerbi in its list of candidates to replace Xavi Hernandez.
Catalan leaders are currently working on a set of options regarding who could take the reins of the team next season. De Zerbi, the Brighton & Hove Albion coach, is highly appreciated by the Barcelona hierarchy.
Former Blaugrana coach Pep Guardiola has reportedly given the nod for de Zerbi to be the candidate to take over. FC Barcelona have sent scouts to closely observe Zerbi’s team since the start of 2024, but nothing has been done. De Zerbi was asked about the rumours, ahead of Brighton’s move to Fulham in the Premier League, and he admitted his future plans could change.
De Zerbi does not close the door
“At the moment I’m only thinking about Brighton. I want to finish the season in the best possible way with our young players,” replied the Italian according to BBC Sport. “Next season? It’s true that I have a contract, but I haven’t decided anything, my attention is 100% on Brighton.”
Brighton head into the weekend in 7th place in the Premier League, but de Zerbi wants to at least finish in the top six, while also making a good effort to qualify for the knockout stages of this season’s Europa League.
