Olympique Lyonnais president John Textor denounced the domination of Paris Saint-Germain and its impact on Ligue 1.
Since its acquisition by Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) in 2011, Paris Saint-Germain has established almost total hegemony over Ligue 1. The capital club has won 9 of the last 13 French championships. A situation which frustrates its competitors, like John Textor, the president and owner of Olympique Lyonnais.
During the Financial Time Business of Football Summit in London, Textor expressed regret about the lack of suspense in Ligue 1. According to him, the domination of PSG harms the appeal and promotion of the French championship around the world.
Textor empties his bag
“Who will be interested in the French championship and watch it on TV if we know who will win?, asked the boss of Les Gones. Everyone is fighting for second place, it’s the same team that wins every year. »
Textor believes that the capital club’s opponents are “competing with a government” and not “a private company”. He also confided to Nasser Al-KhelaĂŻfi, the president of the Parisian club, his skepticism concerning the attractiveness of a Ligue 1 dominated by a single team. “I said to Nasser in private and sometimes in public: ‘Is anyone having fun? Why do you like it?’ “, he said.
