PSG are reportedly looking to punish their star player Kylian Mbappé following the announcement of his upcoming departure from the club.
Kylian Mbappé has become a player like any other at Paris SG. This is what we could say based on the treatment reserved for him in recent matches. After he announced his divorce from the club, the Bondynois did not play an entire match for the French champions.
When he was asked about his player at a press conference, Luis Enrique, the coach, said it was a non-event. He also specified that it was imperative to start “learn to play without Mbappé”. “When I deem it necessary, he will play or not play, like all coaches do with players. I want maximum competitiveness for next season”he added with a firm tone.
Would Mbappé pay for his choice to leave?
Despite this posture, it is difficult not to envisage a disguised punishment imposed on the team’s star because of his choice to leave. Philippe Carayon, Canal+ journalist, thinks this is the most plausible explanation. “It’s not possible otherwise, it’s unheard of. For me, it’s an unofficial sanction,” he declared on Sunday during the Canal Football Club program.
An opinion which is however not shared by Mickaël Landreau, a former member of the Parisian house. For the latter, it is only about workforce management. “If we want to make a positive interpretation we can say that basically, we are preparing for the Champions League and we want to win trophies. It would be the management of a squad and the physical appearance of the players. So that everyone is in the best possible condition.”
