New Manchester United owner Jim Ratcliffe is determined to bring back a star to Old Trafford. A player capable of making Cantona forget.

Manchester United’s new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has said he would like to bring “another Eric Cantona” to the club in the future.

Ratcliffe admits he was a big fan of the Frenchman during his time at Old Trafford. He told MUTV in an interview: “There’s a certain type of player… when he gets the ball you’re excited because you’re not sure what he’s going to do with it – there could be a bit of magic. Eric (Cantona) was one of them.”

The British businessman remembers very well the impact the King had on the Red Devils. “He transformed the Manchester United team and Alex Ferguson so much. They hadn’t won the championship for 25 or 26 years before Eric arrived. Then Eric came along and he was the catalyst that really galvanized the team for the next 25 years.”

Ratcliffe concluded by saying that we also need players with personality and capable of transcending an entire group. “Eric was a bit glamorous. He was a bit of a maverick, I suppose. David Beckham was, Bobby Charlton too. There has always been a glamorous side associated with the club, and that’s one of the reasons why the brand is so well known around the world.”
