With his usual frankness, Eden Hazard revealed the name of the most talented footballer he encountered during his career.
From Karim Benzema to Kevin De Bruyne, via Luka Modric and Samuel Eto’o, Eden Hazard has encountered some of the greatest players of his generation. But the most talented of all, in his eyes, does not belong to this category. Called by his former teammate John Obi Mikel to look back on his career, the former Belgian international made some surprising comments.
“The best I ever played with? For me, Modric and Benzema are at the top of the list. De Bruyne, Lampard, Mata too. But in terms of talent, I would say Gaël Katuta. The only one I said ‘wow’ to, you know, in France was Gaël Kakuta. You asked me for talent. Kakuta by far is number one. Talent. I mean, talent. Wow!”launched the former Lille resident.
Hazard, his incredible confidence about Kakuta
Eden Hazard got used to facing Gaël Kakuta when the two attacking midfielders played respectively in the youth categories of Lille and Lens, during their training course. “You know, I often played against him because I played in Lille and he played in Lens. You know, it’s a derby, it’s the north of France”.
“So, me being me. We used to win every game, five, six nil. Me: the best player in every match. And then every time we played against him, we lost the game. He was the best player”continued Hazard, before returning to the career of his former opponent, today at Amiens, in Ligue 2. ” It is not normal. I think now it’s easy to say, but I think he came a little too early (to) Chelsea. He was 16 when he left France for Chelsea, you know? And taking that step at 16 is a huge step.” An outing which should not leave Gaël Kakuta indifferent.
