As expected, Olympique de Marseille formalized the departure of Gennaro Gattuso this Tuesday.

After the media announcement on Monday, it’s time for the official announcement this Tuesday. Through a brief press release, Olympique de Marseille announced the end of its collaboration with Gennaro Gattuso, appointed coach of the Marseille club on September 27 following the departure of Marcelino.

“Olympique de Marseille would like to particularly thank Gennaro and all of his staff for the flawless investment and great professionalism they have demonstrated on a daily basis and wish them good luck for the future”we can read in the press release published this Tuesday.

Gasset called to the rescue

To replace the transalpine technician, Pablo Longoria and his teams decided to rely on the experienced Jean-Louis Gasset. The formalization of his appointment is expected in the coming hours. Already in Marseille, the former Ivory Coast coach will sign a four-month contract and will be accompanied by his assistant Ghislain Printant, as well as physical trainer Nicolas Girard.

Gennaro Gattuso will therefore not have resisted Marseille’s new defeat at Brest (1-0), Sunday evening in Ligue 1. With a record of 9 wins, 8 draws and 7 defeats in 24 matches in all competitions at the head of the ‘OM, the 2006 world champion will not leave a lasting memory on the Canebière.
