David De Gea has been free since leaving Manchester United last summer when his contract expired.
Quite surprisingly, the Spanish international goalkeeper has remained without a club throughout the season, despite being linked with numerous clubs over the past few months.
A return to the Premier League has been mooted, while clubs in Saudi Arabia have also been interested in the 33-year-old goalkeeper. However, it seems that he wants to return to Spain, according to English media (reported by Diario AS).
Resumption of service in La Liga
The Iberian goalkeeper has not played in La Liga since leaving Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011, but the time may have come for him to return to the fold. Several teams could be in the market for a new goalkeeper during the summer, including Real Betis, Villarreal and Sevilla.
A return to Atleti is unlikely for De Gea, but that should not stop him from returning to La Liga action. For now, it’s unlikely anything will happen before the summer transfer window opens.
