2026 World Cup: The crazy rumor around France-Spain

If Spain won its second star on Sunday during the World Cup final, some were convinced that the semi-final won against France should be replayed.

It has almost become a tradition. As was the case in 2021 after the elimination suffered against Switzerland at Euro 2020 or after the defeat on penalties against Argentina in the 2026 World Cup final, several petitions were launched following the elimination of the Blues against Spain on Tuesday.

“During the penalty shootout awarded to Spain, Lamine Yamal touches the ball with his hand. France should not have taken this first goal, which changes the whole aspect of the match, wrote one of them, which crossed the 100,000 signatures mark.
Sport must be played within the rules, and tonight they were not respected. »

And for some, there was even no doubt: the Blues’ match against Spain should indeed be replayed. At least that’s what many young people seemed convinced of on Sunday evening, even though La Roja was facing Argentina. The reason? The numerous publications on Tik Tok claiming that the meeting should indeed be replayed.

Fake news wreaks havoc

“Official, the match will be replayed because of this image”, “Replay France-Spain: Unprecedented revelation”, “It’s official: the France-Spain meeting must be replayed”, “Didier Deschamps announces: France-Spain will be replayed tomorrow”…. These are some of the publications that flourished on Tik Tok for several days, some reaching 5 million views.

And it was therefore clearly enough for many teenagers, even pre-teens, to think that the match will indeed have to be replayed… And this despite regular awareness of fake news among the youngest.

At the same time, deputies and senators approved the bill on the ban on social networks for children under 15 years old, Monday, in the joint committee. The text must now be voted on this Tuesday in the Senate, then in the National Assembly, for final adoption.
