Liverpool are expected to see a record crowd at Anfield on Saturday when they host Burnley in the Premier League.

The upper level of the new Anfield Road stand will finally be opened ahead of the club’s next Premier League fixture on Saturday against Burnley, according to The Athletic. With the opening of the new stand, the total capacity of the stadium will now be 60,000 seats.

The project, which cost around £80 million, was due to be completed before the 2023/24 season, but the opening was postponed after construction company Buckingham Group was placed into administration in September. Rayner Rowen Construction then resumed work and the upper level was partially opened in December during a match against Manchester United.

The previous record attendance at Anfield was 58,757 people, for a match against Chelsea in December 1949. Since the partial opening of the upper tier, the highest attendance has been 57,548 people, when of the match against Arsenal on December 23.
