Former PSG center forward Guillaume Hoarau has a clear idea of why Luis Enrique no longer used Mbappé as a winger.

While he was used to playing on the left side of the attack, Kylian Mbappé now plays most of the time as a center forward at PSG. A situation which does not necessarily suit him but which seems to suit his trainer Luis Enrique.

“Like new, Mbappé can continue to score goals”

Why would the Spanish coach insist on aligning his star in the center? A question to which Guillaume Hoarau, a former PSG 9, believes he has the answer. In an interview with Le Parisien, he explained: “Because he is an extraordinary player, capable of playing in all positions of the attack. But also because Dembélé has become the real dynamite of the team and, on the other side, Barcola has found his rhythm and creates imbalances on the left flank. If that hadn’t been the case, Kylian would have found his side again. But I repeat, if he occupies this role of number 9 today, it is because Ramos and Kolo Muani did not know how to make the difference. He will never be an old-fashioned 9, but he is nevertheless in a position where he can continue to score goals! »

Then asked if it was really a brilliant idea to have the Bondynois play in the center, the former international replied: “If Mbappé plays up front, it is quite simply because there is no no better in the squad! So Luis Enrique is not going to ask him, moreover, to change his game. He already goes there without flinching… Whether he starts from the side or from the center, he continues to attack the depth. When I see Hakimi’s offensive contribution, I notice anyway that the game is no longer the same, no longer as stereotypical as before. There are no more systematic centers as in the past. There, everyone attacks the area and can find themselves in a position to score.”
