Xavi Hernandez having announced that he will leave his post as FC Barcelona coach at the end of the season, speculation is rife about his successor.
Names like Hansi Flick, Imanol Alguacil and Thiago Motta have all been mooted for the position, but for now there is not expected to be much movement as FC Barcelona intend to take their time in selecting the candidate ideal.
Not for now
That hasn’t stopped experts from nominating their favorites for the job. TalkSPORT’s Danny Murphy has perhaps the most unusual suggestion, as he believes Lionel Messi should return to the club next summer to become their next manager, as reported by Caught Offside.
“I would give the job to Messi, the fans immediately agree. Everything he touches turns to gold. He was put on this earth to do incredible things. It’s not going to stop at the management level.”
It is safe to say that Messi will not be a candidate to succeed Xavi, since he will most certainly stay at Inter Miami for the next two seasons at least. However, if the Argentinian takes up coaching work at the end of his sporting career, there is no doubt that he could one day become coach of FC Barcelona.
