Winner at home this Sunday against Valencia CF (2-0, 22nd day of La Liga), Atlético de Madrid took the opportunity to climb to third place in the ranking.

The day after the new disillusionment of FC Barcelona beaten at home by Villarreal (3-5), Atlético de Madrid did not hesitate to take advantage of the opportunity. Opposing Valence CF on Sunday, Antoine Griezmann’s partners did what was necessary to win at home, thanks to goals from Samuel Lino and Memphis Depay. THE Colchoneros are therefore on the provisional La Liga podium while Valencia remain in eighth place.

The visitors, however, had reason to worry the Madrilenians since they remained on a good series of five consecutive matches without the slightest defeat in La Liga (four wins and a draw). But Atlético’s domination was far too strong during a one-sided first act. 70% possession for the locals who, however, struggled to make it happen, finally finding the fault a few seconds before the break. Served by Antoine Griezmann, Samuel Lino broke the deadlock (1-0, 45th+4).

Depay still scorer

The appearance of the second act was slightly different. Finally awake and more enterprising, the visitors tried to come back, but they were picked off a second time following a cross from Nahuel Molina delivered from the right and perfectly taken by Memphis Depay (2-0, 57th). A second goal in three days for the Dutchman. The score will remain there, ensuring Atlético its fourteenth victory of the season in twenty-one league matches.
