Cristiano Ronaldo launched his NTF collection with a cryptocurrency platform and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is the subject of a complaint in the United States. A sum of one billion dollars is claimed!
Thursday in stories on his Instagram, Cristiano Ronaldo recalled that he was the ambassador of Binance, a cryptocurrency platform with which he launched his collection of NFTs (digital collectibles). However, this sponsorship contract is not anecdotal, since “CR7” is the subject of a complaint in the United States, since November 27 in a Florida court, from a collective which attacks crypto operators.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is certainly promoting his collection of NFTs, but it is more generally an advertisement for this cryptocurrency site. He is therefore accused of being complicit in the sale of illegal financial instruments. The BNB, the token of Binance, is considered an unregistered financial security by the SEC, the US federal financial markets regulator and supervisory agency.
The plaintiffs are seeking more than a billion dollars in damages. This collective has already attacked American sports stars like Stephen Curry, Shaquille O’Neal or Tom Brady for their association with FTX, a popular cryptocurrency platform which went bankrupt in November 2022.
