Leader of the Premier League, Liverpool is in very good momentum. Winners of Newcastle in the league (4-2) and Arsenal in the FA Cup (2-0), the Reds have generally avoided pitfalls for the moment. Moreover, if Mohamed Salah will miss during the African Cup of Nations just like Wataru Endo during the Asian Cup, Liverpool is generally spared. In terms of injuries, the English club is experiencing some problems, however, with youngsters Ben Doak and Stefan Bajcetic, the long absence of Joël Matip, the absences of Andrew Robertson, Virgil van Dijk and Kostas Tsimikas or more recently Trent Alexander-Arnold . However, the Reds will be able to count on significant reinforcement.

There is no question of a transfer window here, but of an internal solution. Indeed, Thiago Alcantara who has been absent since the start of the season and has not played a single match since April 26 against West Ham (2-1) finally seems to see the end of the tunnel after a long hip injury which had handicapped him during his previous exercise. Leaving many speculations about him, the Spanish midfielder also saw his contract end at the end of the season and the train moved forward without him with Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, Alexis MacAllister, Curtis Jones, Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai who all showed good dispositions.

A looming return

Absent from the Spanish selection since Euro 2020, he should also not be part of the adventure in a few months at Euro 2024. However, if all the signals appear negative, hope is resurgent for Thiago Alcantara. Indeed, according to information from the Spanish media Sport, his return to the Reds would be imminent. Already able to train properly, Thiago Alcantara took the necessary time to return from his injury, but finally seems to be regaining his good conditions. At the end of November, Jürgen Klopp was optimistic: “this is an ongoing matter. And we can’t put pressure on that either, but we expect him to be back probably early in the new year.”

At the end of December, the tone remains the same, even if the German coach’s position remains cautious: “Thiago is currently in a very good moment. We just have to be sure we don’t use it too soon.” Wishing to count on him to bring a different touch and more technical control to his midfield, Jürgen Klopp is impatiently awaiting this suitable reinforcement at the end of the season. Leader of the Premier League, entered in the Carabao Cup (1/2 final), FA Cup (1/16th final) and Europa League (1/8th final), Liverpool is in the race for an incredible quadruple. For Thiago Alcantara, the next few months will be decisive. At the end of the contract, the player is not particularly concerned about this and is focused on his future with the Reds. Moreover, on the Liverpool side, an extension is not excluded, but it will depend a lot on the physical reliability of the player at the end of the season…
