Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper since the summer of 2024, Matvey Safonov has established himself for almost a year in place of Lucas Chevalier. The Russian goalkeeper trained at FK Krasnodar spoke to the selection during the Sbornaya gathering. The 27-year-old goalkeeper admitted he had succeeded in his mission by showing he could establish himself at an elite club like Paris Saint-Germain.

“I will probably repeat myself. I have said several times that my departure from Russian football probably had a specific mission, which I think I accomplished with dignity… well, maybe I am still accomplishing it (smile). It was about showing everyone that anything is possible. That we can go from the Krasnodar training center to the big clubs, to the Champions League“, he confided.
