In 2017, Paris Saint-Germain made a huge move by snatching Neymar from FC Barcelona. To achieve this, the residents of the Parc des Princes paid the Brazilian’s release clause, set at 222 million euros. This summer, Ney left the capital permanently to join Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. But his case is still causing ink to flow in France. Indeed, Release made important revelations about the transfer of the Auriverde international to Paris.
The media, which obtained the report from the IGPN (General Inspectorate of the National Police), explains that French justice is investigating the payment of this famous clause. Jean-Martial Ribes, who was communications director for PSG, would have used his connections to demand tax favors from the State. He would have notably contacted Hugues Renson, a former MP, who would have had discussions with Gérald Darmanin, Minister of Public Accounts at the time. The objective was to comply with PSG’s demands. Justice is therefore investigating the role of PSG and the politicians concerned, in particular Gérald Darmanin, who became Minister of the Interior.
