Lyonnais for five years in his career, with 95 goals scored in 244 matches played, Bafétimbi Gomis has not forgotten his former club.

In an interview with Le Progrès, the man nicknamed “the Panther” analyzes the bad times experienced by Les Gones. “ It’s sad but after 35 years of a great president, if not the greatest in the history of French football, it’s normal that there is a void. I hope they find the right remedy. JMA left a great image in Lyon and it’s difficult to get behind it. He is a legend who built a club which had ten employees to a monster, with a stadium, infrastructures. I want to take my hat off to him and having been one of his players, I know all the good he has done for OL. Now we have to give Textor time. He will need advice. I hope he will be well looked after. »

Still clearly very attached to Lyon, Bafétimbi Gomis continues: “ OL deserve to regain their place. I was happy to see JMA back at the stadium, hand in hand with Textor. This is the only way Lyon can come back and not repeat the mistakes of the past. These are periods that all major clubs go through. There are cycles. I hope that Lyon can come back next season with more experience, more seasoned players, with a return to the European Cup. »

At 38 years old, the former French international (12 caps for three goals) has not yet hung up his boots, he who now plays in the ranks of Kawasaki Frontale, in Japan. At mid-season, OL are 15e of Ligue 1, left the red zone at the last minute after a series of three successes before the break.
