After having continued tirelessly with the OL women and the Bleues, Wendie Renard had surgery on Wednesday. The central defender will be sidelined for a good while.

Already deprived of Selma Bacha and Eugénie Le Sommer, OL women have lost another French international and not the least: their captain Wendie Renard. The central defender went out with an injury, hit in the hip, during the first period of the last D1 Arkéma match on the field of FC Fleury 91, on December 16 (3-1 victory for the intractable leaders of the championship).

On Wednesday, the Lyon club announced that the 33-year-old player had undergone surgery, without giving the nature of the injury, but specifying that Renard will be away from the field for a few weeks. If the Martinique woman has had surgery on her hip, she will be immobilized for a while and will not resume until February. In any case, the OL press release leaves everyone in uncertainty…

Ready for the Nations League Final Four?

Hervé Renard, the coach of the French women’s team, will follow his namesake’s return to competition closely. The Blues can win the very first title of the French selection during the Final Four of the Women’s Nations League. They will face Germany in the semi-finals on February 23 at Groupama Stadium, before challenging world champion Spain or the Netherlands.
