Super League: These 9 big clubs who say no!

Following a decision by the Court of Justice of the European Union on Thursday, “The Super League” announced its future creation with 32 clubs spread across three divisions. The leaders of Real Madrid and Barça are in charge, but many major European clubs have already announced their refusal to participate.

They refuse to join the Super League

  • PSG is one of the main opponents in the Super League of Florentino Pérez and Joan Laporta. And for good reason, Nasser al-Khelaïfi is the president of the ECA, the association of European clubs, which is linked to UEFA and which therefore opposes the project from Spain. The Qatari leader firmly rejected the possible European Super League by supporting UEFA. AS Monaco also communicated, declaring its “ attachment to the principle of sporting merit which governs UEFA and French championship competitions “.
  • In Germany, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund refused to join the Super League project in 2021. They were given 30 days to accept! They once again reaffirmed their opposition to this quasi-closed league (even if the 10 worst each year are replaced).
  • English football is now against the Super League after the fan scandal in April 2021. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham were among the founding clubs of the ESL two and a half years ago and some were even on the executive committee with Florentino Pérez and Andrea Agnelli. The Red Devils have already communicated their intention not to join the project. Manchester City and Liverpool would still be against it too. The Premier League intends to exclude any club that participates in the Super League and the British government is even preparing a law to punish potential abandoners!
  • While the Spanish press had announced that the big clubs in Italy were in favor of the Super League, AS Roma and Inter Milan have ruled out their participation in the Super League. Inter and AC Milan were among the founding clubs. It’s a big blow for Florentino Pérez and Joan Laporta…
  • Finally, in Spain, it is also grimace soup for the Real-Barça duo. Atlético is no longer in the game, the Colchoneros no longer want to hear about the Super League. Sevilla (which was not part of the short-lived Superleague in 2021), but also Real Sociedad, Villarreal, Valencia, Celta, Cádiz, Granada, Levante or Valladolid have warned of their future non-participation.

They are up for the Super League

  • After the announcement of the return of the European Super League on Thursday morning, Mundo Deportivo gave the names of the clubs in favor of participation: PSV, Feyenoord, Benfica, Porto, Red Star Belgrade, Anderlecht, the Italian clubs (which is therefore false, since Inter and Roma said no) as well as the “Turkish giants” (which is also false, since Fenerbahçe denied the information). Unsurprisingly, the Spanish press contributes to the great circus proposed by Pérez and Laporta.
  • This has not been confirmed at all in France, but OM and OL would be in favor of participating in the Super League, considering the financial income as saving for the future. This is information given by another Spanish media, Ace, and it is completely unreliable. However, we note that the two clubs are owned by two American businessmen. In their country, the notion of a “closed league” is the norm.
  • A major Italian club has directly announced its agreement for the Super League: Napoli! No wonder from a president as sulphurous as Aurelio De Laurentiis.
