While Manchester City is deprived of Erling Haaland, victim of a broken foot, young crack Oscar Bobb, also a Norwegian international, scored his first goal with Pep Guardiola’s team on Wednesday in the Champions League.
Already qualified for the round of 16 of the Champions League and even assured of finishing first ahead of Leipzig, Manchester City concluded their group stage with a sixth victory in as many days, on the field of Red Star Belgrade (2 -3), Wednesday evening.
Two young prodigies from the Mancunian Academy opened their goal tally at the professional level during this meeting in Serbia. Micah Hamilton, right winger of the day, opened the scoring strongly (21st). Then Oscar Bobb, aligned at the forefront (but usually a winger), doubled the lead with a small festival in the area (62nd). This 20-year-old left-handed dribbler can make a name for himself, nicknamed the “Norwegian Messi” (he already has four caps and one goal).
Bobb is also likely to have playing time in the coming weeks because his compatriot Erling Haaland suffered a stress fracture in one foot and could miss a few additional matches.
Crvena Zvezda reignited the suspense by scoring two goals (Hwang In-Beom and Aleksandar Katai) in the last quarter of an hour but still lost. It is the Young Boys, despite a defeat in Leipzig (2-1), who finish third to compete in the next play-offs of the Europa League (against a 2nd in the Europa League).
