The Spanish press believes that PSG has two assets to succeed in extending Kylian Mbappé: the next Paris 2024 Olympics and a record for the striker to beat.
In less than a month, Kylian Mbappé will be able, like two years ago at the same time, to choose to sign up with the club of his choice. In 2021, the French striker made the pleasure last as well as the suspense and finally decided for an extension with Paris Saint-Germain, to the great amazement of Real Madrid who already saw themselves welcoming him . As 2024 approaches, the scenario is more or less the same, except that everyone is keeping a much lower profile. The various contenders in any case have assets to put forward and for the Spanish press, those of PSG are identified.
This Tuesday, A.S. spoke about the Mbappé file and highlighted two advantages which, according to him, could make the difference in favor of the Parisian club. First, the upcoming holding of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games would be a point to credit PSG. A few weeks ago, Kylian Mbappé was asked about his desire to play the Olympics with France. “ The decision to go to the Games concerns my employer. If he decides that I shouldn’t go, I will respect his decision“, the Bondynois then said. Obviously, everyone knows that the latter wants to be there. And according to the Spanish media, the economic power of PSG could help him, in the sense that the club will be able to do what is necessary to free him during the Games.
Onnis, an unattainable record?
The possibility of seeing Mbappé as the standard bearer of the France team could also play a role. But this is not the only asset that Paris would have, explains A.S.. The other is a little more subjective and is linked to a record to be beaten: that of top scorer in the history of the French championship. Thanks to his goal scored last Sunday against Le Havre, the 2018 world champion reached 179 goals in Ligue 1. Still very far from the record holder, the Argentinian Delio Onnis, who had scored 299 goals. The sports media estimated that if Mbappé remained at least five more seasons in France, if he remained on his current standards of goals scored, then he could come and tickle the former AS Monaco man.
Not sure that all this is really enough to motivate Kylian Mbappé to stay at Paris Saint-Germain. At this stage of the season, and probably until the last moment of his reflection, the choice of striker remains and will remain a mystery.
