Author of a totally crazy 2025/2026 season both with Paris Saint-Germain with whom he won the Champions League and Spain with whom he won the World Cup, Fabian Ruiz walked on water. The 30-year-old midfielder is logically among the 30 contenders for the Ballon d’Or and will try to beat his 24th place for the 2025 Ballon d’Or. In an interview for The Teamhe gave his opinion on the reward and his chances of winning: “To be among the 30, for me, it is a privilege. Let the Ballon d’Or jurors vote for the one who deserves, because for me being there is already a privilege. I am grateful for the confidence they have in me and to be among the nominees. For a footballer, I believe it is something beautiful and important. Hopefully I can finish as high as possible this year.»

He admitted that no one had done as well as him collectively, but that wasn’t everything: “in terms of titles no, but individually, there were some great players this year who had very good seasons. We no longer have any doubts about their level. It’s a good thing that Europe has very high level players. That there are many candidates to win this trophy. To be one of them is for me a privilege and an immense satisfaction.» He also affirmed that his absence of three months in the middle of the season will not have an impact on this ranking since he was there when it mattered the most: “In the important and decisive moments of the season, I was fortunately on the pitch, I ended up playing and I played an important role both here and in the selection. I don’t think this has any influence on the Ballon d’Or election.»
