OM qualified for the rest of the Europa League after a completely crazy victory against Ajax (4-3), Thursday evening at the Vélodrome. The Phocéens were caught three times by a team reduced to 10 before obtaining a gag penalty in added time.

At the heart of a catastrophic season in Ligue 1, OM can count on the Europa League to find a smile again and even thank a public always there. The Phocéens won against Ajax (4-3), Thursday evening at the Stade Vélodrome, and will play the rest of this European competition. They are first in the group before finishing against Brighton, in two weeks in England. A first place will directly offer a round of 16, a second place will send the team into the play-offs against a 3rd in the Champions League…

Aubameyang for the hat-trick

This success against Ajax will be remembered because the scenario was absolutely incredible! Gennaro Gattuso’s men led the score three times and were caught as many times by an Amsterdam team reduced to 10 from the hour mark (exclusion of Steven Berghuis in the 63rd). The goals of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (9th and 48th on a magnificent return) and Chancel Mbemba (27th) were erased by equalizers signed Brian Brobbey (11th and 30th) and Chuba Akpom (80th).

It was an improbable penalty which allowed OM to win in added time. On a cross that was going to go out as a goal kick, Ajax goalkeeper Diant Ramaj released the ball and hit Ismaïla Sarr. Aubame then took the opportunity to give victory to his team, for their hat-trick, in a delirious Vélodrome (93rd). The Phocéens will return to their home on Sunday evening with the arrival of Stade Rennais. They need to score as much but be much better defensively to get back into the league…
