Kylian Mbappé admitted he “could have done more” after Paris Saint-Germain “completely dominated” Newcastle United in the Champions League.
The 24-year-old French international played the full 90 minutes at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, and was on hand in added time to score a crucial goal from the penalty spot after Tino Livramento was found guilty of tampering the ball in his own area.
Paris Saint Germain earned a 1-1 draw and retained their second place in Group F. The Magpies follow closely in third, just two points behind the Ligue 1 giants. The controversial penalty decision has was very detrimental to Eddie Howe’s team, who could have passed PSG if they had won 1-0 away on Tuesday.
Speaking after the 1-1 home draw, Mbappé admitted he could have done more that evening to secure his side’s three points. “I try to give my best every night. I think I could have done more for my team. I had a lot of chances and I didn’t score more goals“, he told RMC Sport. “I had chances to score, I have to score, that’s clear. Everyone with eyes saw that we dominated. It is we who must be more efficient in the last gesture. We totally dominated. We have to make the most of our chances, we had too many in a Champions League match. We must not give up, because there is one match left and the objective is to be first in the group so we must win in Dortmund. The message is clear ! »
PSG and their teammates have a very close deadline after the Newcastle match, as they prepare to face Le Havre on Sunday.
Luis Enrique’s side are currently top of Ligue 1, just one point behind second-placed OGC Nice, showing the importance of a return to winning ways this weekend.
