Nice resident Youcef Atal was taken into police custody Thursday evening for “provoking racial hatred”.

After relaying on social networks a video of a preacher calling for “a dark day for the Jews” following the abuses of Hamas in Israel, Youcef Atal was provisionally suspended by his club OGC Nice, before receiving 7 match suspensions from the LFP.

In addition, the Algerian international is the subject of a preliminary investigation for “apology of terrorism and public provocation to hatred or violence”. And Nice morning we learned this Friday that the Gym player was taken into police custody this Thursday evening for “provoking racial hatred” – it is therefore the charge which was retained.

As a reminder, Youcef Atal quickly deleted his post, before sending a mea-culpa message. “I strongly condemn all forms of violence, anywhere in the world, and I support all victims, he had written. I will never support a message of hatred. Peace is an ideal in which I firmly believe. »
