Bruno Genesio should finally leave Stade Rennais, where he had been stationed since March 2021. Julien Stéphan should return to Brittany to replace him.
Upheaval in sight at Stade Rennais. While the Breton club is in 13th place in Ligue 1, after a defeat at Roazhon Park against Lyon (0-1), Bruno Genesio should leave his post. The French technician had however been confirmed in his functions after a crisis meeting with president Olivier Cloarec and sports director Florian Maurice, but things have evolved in recent hours.
According to Ouest-France, “the positions became closer between the management of the club and the 57-year-old technician, who initially did not want to resign… but was starting to get worn out, tired, and no longer really saw himself continuing with a club of which he was the leader. coach since March 2021.”
The idea of a departure would therefore come from Genesio himself, and Ouest-France does not yet know whether it will be a pure and simple resignation, or more certainly a break negotiated with the club management, maybe even “directly with the owner François Pinault”.
Stéphan’s big return
Genesio arrived in Rennes in March 2021, and he qualified his team for Europe three seasons in a row (6th, 4th, 4th). This start of the year is more laborious, with recruitment slow to bear fruit, and the former OL coach could therefore give up his place, despite a contract which currently runs until 2025.
To succeed him, the SRFC plans to recall a veteran of the house, Julien Stéphan, free since his departure from Strasbourg. It was him who Genesio replaced on the Rennes bench, two and a half years ago now…
