PSG: what happens to Thilo Kehrer?

On August 17, 2022, PSG removed a big thorn in their side. Having become unwanted for several months, German defender Thilo Kehrer finally left Paris. He signed with West Ham for around ten million euros. A win-win deal since Kehrer, a few months before the 2022 World Cup, was absolutely looking to relaunch himself to be in Hansi Flick’s list. And PSG recovered a sum of money for a player landed for Thomas Tuchel and who never knew how to win despite several chances (128 games played).

For more than a year at West Ham, Thilo Kehrer has barely talked about him. It must be said that there hasn’t been much to say for a while. Quickly singled out by supporters after a few incidents, the 27-year-old defender had still played more than 35 Premier League matches (25 starts). But his performances did not convince the London management who ardently looked for a central defender this summer and who thus recorded the arrival of Konstantinos Mavropanos in addition to Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd or even Angelo Ogbonna. Enough to considerably reduce Thilo Kehrer’s playing time.

Pointed out by supporters

This season, the former Schalke 04 defender has only played 8 small matches, including only 3 in the Premier League (and no starts, 18 minutes played in total). Enough to necessarily exclude him from the German selection and from the first list of new coach Julian Naggelsmann. “Of course the national team remains a problem for me. It all depends on me, on my performance that I bring. My playing time? I had some injury problems at the start of the season. I have not yet spoken directly to Julian Nagelsmann. But I am convinced that we will be successful again with him”he explained on the microphone of Sport1 recently.

But the German international with 27 caps will first have to find his place in the club. Because it is not won. “He made far too many mistakes when he played for West Ham – mistakes which proved extremely costly for us. His level of concentration and his positioning are sometimes similar to what you would see in football schools. But you don’t play for PSG and you don’t make 27 caps in Germany if you’re not a good player.” wrote the support site Hammers regarding his case. With Emerson’s poor form and Nayef Aguerd’s slight injury, Thilo Kehrer could have a chance to play when he returns from the break. Perhaps the opportunity for him to finally raise his head.
