Antoine Griezmann continued his phenomenal start to the season with Atlético de Madrid by giving the Colchoneros victory against Villarreal (3-1) on Sunday evening. He can celebrate his 300th career goal and it’s a legendary accomplishment!
Elected Champions League player of the week, after his double during Atlético’s offensive festival against Celtic (6-0), Antoine Griezmann once again made the difference for the Colchoneros, Sunday in La Liga, during the victory against Villarreal (3-1). One of the men in form across the Pyrenees opened the scoring for the Yellow Submarine, Gerard Moreno scoring his eighth league goal (20th).
But “Griz”, we fire since the start of the season, has turned the match around single-handedly. He made his first assist of the exercise with a super cross for Axel Witsel (45th + 1) and gave Atlético the advantage 10 minutes from the end, on a delivery from Marcos Llorente (80th) . Samuel Lino made the break immediately (85th).
The 300 goal mark!
With this 12th goal of the season, Griezmann not only becomes the second top scorer in Atlético history, tied with Adrian Escudero and only four goals behind record holder Luis Aragonés. The 32-year-old left-hander will soon become the top scorer in the history of the Madrid club…
The 2018 world champion also reached 300 professional goals and it is a rare performance since he is the 12th French player to do so, after Karim Benzema, Thierry Henry, Roger Courtois, Michel Platini, Jean-Pierre Papin, Bafé Gomis, André-Pierre Gignac, Olivier Giroud, Bernard Lacombe, Thadée Cisowski and David Trezeguet.
