AC Milan is preparing a major downsizing of its workforce. According to La Gazzetta dello SportItalian leaders have reportedly decided not to extend the contracts of Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, both linked to the club until June 2027. The objective would be above all financial, since the departure of the two English internationals would allow the Rossoneri to save nearly 10 million euros in gross salaries per season. The central defender could even leave Lombardy as early as the next winter transfer window, while his compatriot should wait until next summer. A decision which is also explained by the less and less important place occupied by the two players in Ruben Amorim’s plans.
Despite his 214 appearances and his role in the Italian championship title won in 2022, Fikayo Tomori is going through a particularly complicated period. First excluded from the group this summer, the 28-year-old defender was finally reinstated, without playing a single minute since the start of the season. For his part, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also struggling to convince his coach, with only one start in the last four matches. Amorim had however praised his physical and technical qualities, while regretting his lack of involvement in the game. These two departures would allow the Milanese club to free up financial margin to strengthen its workforce with profiles more suited to the Portuguese technician’s project.
