Karim Benzema reacted on social networks about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Since then, declarations from French politicians have multiplied.
Last October 15, a week after the terrorist attack launched by Hamas on Israel, Karim Benzema posted a message on social networks, this time in response to the Israeli bombings on Gaza. “All our prayers for the inhabitants of Gaza who are once again victims of these unjust bombings which spare no women or children. » A message that part of the general public, not football fans, would perhaps never have read or heard, if Gérald Darmanin had not highlighted it. Monday evening, the French Minister of the Interior declared on CNews : “Mr. Benzema has notorious links with the Muslim Brotherhood. » Since this statement, other politicians have taken up the subject.
There was notably Senator Valérie Boyer (LR) who asked on Wednesday that Karim Benzema be stripped of French nationality “if the remarks of the Ministry of the Interior are proven”. Two days earlier, on CNewsit was another member of the Republicans, Nadine Morano, who qualified for the 2022 Ballon d’Or “Hamas propaganda agent” following his message on X (formerly Twitter). This Thursday, it was Jean-Luc Mélenchon (LFI) who entered the dance with a message of support for Karim Benzema, again posted on X. “Hello Mr. Benzema. I don’t know you and I don’t know anything about football. But the government and its friends have chosen to demonize you,” he notably wrote before concluding: “I know that France belongs to everyone who chooses it. Those who insult us do not deserve it. »
Towards filing a complaint
This Thursday, it was once again on the other side of the political spectrum that the subject was discussed. On France 2Eric Zemmour (Reconquête) did not do it by half measures: “Karim Benzema, we know that he played for the French team by accident, only for money and sporting results. He said it himself. He is not French at heart. He doesn’t like France, he never did. » And the political leader continues with harsh remarks against the former OL player. As a reminder, Karim Benzema’s lawyer indicated Thursday in the show “Apolline Morning”that he intended to file a complaint against Gérald Darmanin, “perhaps for a public insult”. Faced with the growing number of declarations of all kinds on the subject, Maître Hugues Viguier could well file others.
