Uncertain before the match against Peru (0-2), Lionel Messi (36) shone again with Argentina last night. The Argentine striker scored twice on the pitch at the Estadio Nacional in Lima, and thus set himself a nice record.

With 31 goals in total, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner now stands as the only top scorer in the history of qualifying for a World Cup in the South American region. He is thus ahead of his former teammate at Barça, the Uruguayan Luis Suarez (29 goals).
The 2022 world champion allowed the Albiceleste to record their fourth victory in four matches. Lionel Scaloni’s men continue their race at the top of the standings in this qualifying group for the 2026 World Cup, and now have 12 points on the clock.
