Luis Enrique still defends Mbappé

The PSG coach did not overwhelm Kylian Mbappé after his new scoreless match. Far from it.

For the fourth time in a row, Kylian Mbappé again failed to score on Sunday evening during Paris’ victory in Rennes (3-1). While his team found the net three times in this game, he remained discreet.

“Mbappé didn’t score? It’s anecdotal”

The French international was disappointing, scoring only three of his shots. We also saw him not being very impactful, very rarely taking individual initiatives.

Despite this lackluster game, Mbappé was complimented by his coach at the final whistle. Luis Enrique had nothing but laudatory words about him. “It’s true today he didn’t score, but he’s been at a very good level since the start of the season. Today he had a lot of chances. But it’s true that it’s strange that he didn’t score in a match like that. But it remains anecdotal. I keep what he brings in defense and attack”declared the Spanish coach at a press conference.

Even if his coach systematically defends him in front of the media, Mbappé still gives the impression of being less bleeding than usual. A drop in performance that Raymond Domenech, the former French coach, tried to analyze on the L’Equipe channel. “It is he who must be the symbol of the game of this team. And be the guarantor of what the coach asks. He must therefore adapt his game. He therefore plays it more safely, which suits him less well,” did he declare.
