Manchester United calls for “Fergie time”

Thanks to the two goals scored by Scott McTominay in stoppage time, Manchester United snatched victory at home this Saturday against Brentford (2-1, 8th day of the Premier League). Quite a tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson whose wife died this week.

If “Fergie time” had to be called, it was today. The day after the announcement of the death of Cathy Ferguson, wife of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United decided to pay tribute to their former coach. A minute of silence in memory of his wife, and then a complicated meeting, very complicated even, against Brentford. The visitors thus led until stoppage time in the game. But thanks to two lightning bolts signed Scott McTominay, the Red Devils equalized then reversed the course of the game to win at the finish (2-1).

Entering in the 87th minute of play on a judicious choice by Erik ten Hag, the Scottish international responded for the first time to the goal scored by Mathias Jensen in the first period for Brentford (26th). And so it was in the 93rd minute that he reset the counters to zero. But it wasn’t over. In a scenario that will remind some of the evening of the 1999 Champions League final during which United turned the table against Bayern Munich (2-1), again thanks to two goals at the very end of the match, signed Teddy Sheringham and Ole -Gunnar Solskjaer, Scott McTominay appeared a second time to provide the winning goal in the 97th minute.

A tribute from one Scot to another

What better tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson, and what an incredible wink of fate since it was a fellow Scot who was responsible for the spectacle and the two winning goals. This unexpected victory (2-1) in any case allows the Red Devils to move up to ninth place in the rankings, while Brentford, stunned and not paid for their efforts, are fourteenth.
