After Tottenham’s short but precious victory over Luton (1-0), the 8th day of the Premier League continued this Saturday on the sidelines of the international break. A few days after its defeat against Galatasaray (3-2) in the Champions League, Manchester United hoped to put their heads back together against Brentford, another tough English team looking for success since mid-August. Weighed down by a hand fault from André Onana which benefited Mathias Jensen shortly before the half-hour mark (1-0, 26th), the Red Devils had to wait until the end of the match to reverse the situation. The hero of the day on the Mancunian side is Scott McTominay, author of a saving double in added time (2-1, 90th+3, 90th+7). Thus, Manchester United offers itself an oh-so-important victory which allows it to move into the first half of the ranking. For their part, Chelsea intended to continue their rise in the standings after having disposed of Fulham (2-0) the previous day. However, the meeting started badly for the Blues, picked up cold by Wilson Odobert 0-1, 15th). The former Troyes winger came to punish Mauricio Pochettino’s men after a superb build-up.

Under pressure, the Clarets then scuttled themselves. Scorer against his camp, Ameen Al-Dakhil offered the equalizing goal to his opponents (1-1, 42nd) before Vitinho, overtaken by Raheem Sterling, provoked a penalty converted by Cole Palmer after returning from the locker room (2- 1, 48e). The former Manchester City player as well as his compatriot in attack Nicolas Jackson added their stone to the building (4-1) to offer a second consecutive victory to his team in the championship. At the bottom of the table, Everton crossed swords with Bournemouth. The duel of the poorly classified turned to the advantage of the Toffees. From the start, Sean Dyche’s flock made the difference through James Garner (1-0, 8th) then made the break thanks to Jack Harrison (2-0, 37th). In the second half, Abdoulaye Doucouré definitively sealed his team’s victory (3-0, 60th). With the three points gleaned, Everton gives itself some air in the standings and takes 4 units ahead of its opponent of the day, more stuck than ever in the red zone. Finally in London, Fulham hosted the bottom of the championship, Sheffield United, at Craven Cottage. Clumsy in the last gesture despite a clear domination in the game, Marco Silva’s players nevertheless managed to force the opposing lock during the second act thanks to an achievement from Bobby Reid (1-0, 53rd). If Antonee Robinson revived the Blades by propelling the ball into his own net (1-1, 68th), Tom Cairney (76th) then Willian (90th + 2) finally gave the Cottagers victory (2-1). As a result, Fulham is relaunching while Sheffield United remains bottom of the English championship.
