Portuguese striker Rafael Leao has revealed the reason why he declined a transfer to the Saudi Pro League during the last transfer window.

AC Milan striker Rafael Leao says he was not tempted by Saudi money this summer.

“Too early to leave Europe”

The Portugal international has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League, despite signing a new deal with the Rossoneri in June. But he insists he didn’t hesitate for a second before saying no.

In an interview with GQ, the former Lille resident confided: “I didn’t achieve the accomplishments I was aiming for to leave a league like that. In recent days, money has spoken louder, but for me, a Champions League is worth more than a salary of 10 million, for example.”

Words which also amount to a dig at the stars of European football who have chosen this destination. This was particularly the case for some Serie A footballers like Marcelo Brozovic (ex-Inter) or Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (Lazio).
