The new Germany coach gave a strong speech for his induction, less than a year before the Euro.
Germany is making its little revolution one year after “its” Euro. After the dismissal of Hansi Flick, the Federation placed its trust in Rudi Völler to take over as interim manager, the time for the former scorer to achieve a prestigious success against the French team in Dortmund (2-1).
If this result did not generate particular optimism, it highlighted the need for the German selection to regain security on the defensive level. Völler’s approach, more pragmatic and rudimentary, contrasted with those of his predecessors.
Nagelsmann wants “beautiful football”
By trusting Julian Nagelsmann, Germany is giving back the keys to its selection to a technician obsessed with attacking play. Enough to fall back into the trap of recent years, with a game focused more on aesthetics than efficiency? The first words of the new coach say a lot about his method.
“We need the requirement to play attractive football, which not only excites people with the results, but which can inspire the nation with beautiful football”, said the former Bayern coach. A speech that frightens followers of a more conservative style.
“We have a European Championship in our own country, Nagelsmann continued.. It’s something special, something that rarely happens. It’s a great chance to play a big tournament in a big country. I have a great desire to take on this challenge. The victory in Dortmund (against the French team, editor’s note) was only the beginning. We will be a united group next year”, concluded the young technician. The tone is set.
