FC Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen believes Lionel Messi’s return to the Nou Camp is still possible.
This summer, following the expiration of his lease with PSG, Lionel Messi had the option of returning to his former club Barcelona. The story would have been good and everything predestined him to sign with the Blaugrana, but he ultimately chose to join the American club Inter Miami.
“Barça will always be part of Messi’s life”
Given that he is 36 years old, Messi has probably turned his back on his last chance to reconnect with his favorite club. However, there are some who still believe in a comeback for him. This is the case of his ex-teammate Marc André Ter Stegen.
In an interview with Goal/Spox, the German goalkeeper said: “He certainly would have been an asset to us. Perhaps he will return one day in another role. Barcelona is his club and will always be part of his life. Many people here are still in contact with him. Some players he was very close to are with him today in Miami.”
Ter Stegen also reacted to remarks made by his coach Xavi, which suggest that he has betrayed Barça’s DNA. “This is completely insane. Every philosophy must evolve. When Xavi was playing himself, the quality of Barca’s team was much higher than other teams. Since then, everything has become more balanced, especially in the physical domain. This is why we need to find different solutions today than back then. Especially at the beginning, he tried to give us some stability, and that was very necessary.”
Finally, the last bastion of the Mannschaft spoke about his new teammate, the very promising Lamine Yamal. “His carefree attitude is a good thing for us. I hope he keeps it. Physically, he will have to work, but he is only 16 years old. Off the field, Lamine is a quiet boy. You have to give it time to evolve slowly. He has a bright future ahead of him.”
