Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez Blanco is set to take charge of a La Liga outfit.

Five years after his debut as a coach, Raul will finally inherit an important position. The former Real Madrid and Spain striker is said to be the favorite to take the reins at Villarreal.

Raul finally in the deep end

The Yellow Submarine recently separated from Quique Setién and to replace the latter, the management would therefore have chosen to bet on the former number 7 merengue. A daring bet given that the latter has no experience at the head of a professional team.

Raul was previously in charge of Castilla (Real reserve). He is still under contract there. His employer would have agreed to let him go, as it is a great opportunity to get into La Liga.

Note that at one point, Raul was also tipped to settle on the Real Madrid bench to replace Carlo Ancelotti. But, this privilege is now promised to his former team-mate in the selection, Xabi Alonso. The Basque (today in Leverkusen) is favored by President Florentino Pérez.

If he is appointed on the side of the Ceramica, Raul will soon visit France. Villarreal having fallen with Stade Rennais in the group stage of the Europa League.
