La Liga president Javier Tebas has said it was a “sad” ending for Lionel Messi and FC Barcelona after he left for Paris Saint-Germain.
Javier Tebas, the La Liga president, said it was a “sad end” for Lionel Messi and FC Barcelona, after the Argentine’s departure from the club in 2021. The 36-year-old has spent 17 seasons at the Camp Nou but bid a tearful farewell after failing to agree a new contract.
Last summer, Messi was tipped to return to Barcelona but ended up joining Inter Miami, and Tebas says he’s sad the striker couldn’t return to finish his La Liga career.
” Messi didn’t end his La Liga career because Leo and FC Barcelona didn’t agree. I would have liked him to stay and finish his sporting career in Spain. It would have been best for him, for me and for Barcelona“, said Tebas during a press conference in Buenos Aires.
“I would have liked him to come to Spanish football and not go to PSG. The end of this film was sad between Messi and Spanish football”.
Messi spent two seasons in Ligue 1 with PSG, where he won the league title twice, as well as the French Super Cup. Despite his successes, Messi has had a tough time in Paris but is now enjoying life in MLS with David Beckham’s side Inter Miami.
