A small event occurred on Wednesday evening when the nominees for the Ballon d’Or were announced and it concerns Cristiano Ronaldo.

If he still wears the armband of Portugal, a presence in the selection which also arouses debate, Cristiano Ronaldo has fallen back into a certain anonymity.

By joining the Saudi Arabian Championship last January after a failed comeback to Manchester United, the 38-year-old striker also stepped back from the Ballon d’Or race.

We weren’t surprised then not to see CR7 among the finalists for the 2023 edition unveiled on Wednesday evening, he who was the winner five times (2008, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017).

Record holder of nominations (18), Cristiano Ronaldo was not selected for the first time since… 2003.

The former Real Madrid player has probably turned a page in his career for good.
