Stade Brestois have revealed they refused to sign Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood.
Stade Brestois sporting director Gregory Lorenzi has admitted that his club have been offered the Manchester United striker but are not interested in signing the 21-year-old for two major reasons.
” I was offered Greenwood, who Manchester United dismissed for an extra-sporting matter. But between the controversy and the salary, we did not consider following up for a second”, he told the Telegram.
Manchester United have confirmed Greenwood will leave the club following a six-month internal investigation, after sexual assault and domestic violence charges against the forward were dropped.
The Breton club is not the only club to have given up recruiting Greenwood. Brentford, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Roma have also reportedly refused to sign the former England international.
Greenwood has since been on loan at La Liga side Getafe and said he can’t wait to start playing with his new club. The striker hasn’t played competitively since his arrest in January 2022.
Getafe coach José Bordalas said Greenwood arrived at his club with “enormous enthusiasm” and hoped to help him get back to his best at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
Sporting director Ruben Reyes has also defended his club’s decision to sign Greenwood, adding that being able to sign the striker alongside Diego Rico and Oscar Rodriguez is a “joy for us”.
