At the 2022 World Cup, Lionel Messi finally got his hands on the coveted trophy, after being frustrated throughout his career.
It was thought that the World Cup final against France would be the last game of Messi’s international career.
However, he continued to play for Argentina, and he will do so again during the next international break, in which the Albiceleste will start their qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
After last year’s tournament in Qatar, it seemed almost certain that Messi had played his last World Cup game, but that may not be the case today. Claudio Tapia, president of the Argentine Football Federation, believes Messi could feature in the 2026 World Cup, according to MD.
“The president of the Argentine Football Federation, Claudio Tapia, believes that Messi could participate in the 2026 World Cup, as indicated by the Catalan media.
“I see him playing there in any position he wants, because he can really do it. It will depend on what he wants, but there is no doubt that I dream of seeing him play,” added the leader.
The former Barcelona man will be 39 by the time the North American tournament takes place, but he will certainly still have the necessary qualities to take part in it, if he wants to.
