With the injuries to Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, all eyes are naturally turning to Désiré Doué, expected to take more responsibility in the Parisian attack. But another player also had a good card to play: Mika Godts. Recruited this summer to replace, on paper, Bradley Barcola, the Belgian winger has so far struggled to convince. His entries into the game had often left a taste of unfinished business, to the point that the possibility of an offensive reinforcement was already mentioned to compensate for the absence of Kvaratskhelia. As if we still doubted the ability of his recruit to meet expectations. Facing Olympique Lyonnais this Monday evening, Godts therefore had an ideal opportunity to silence the first criticisms.

Still replacing at kick-off, the former Ajax player was launched while PSG came up against a particularly compact Lyon block. His first minutes, however, long resembled his previous appearances. Available, multiplying calls in depth, the Belgian was rarely served by his partners. But he never gave up, displaying constant involvement, including in defensive tasks. He notably stood out with a magnificent save on his line to prevent OL from scoring. The fact remains that Godts was expected offensively. And this time, he responded. First a decisive passer for Senny Mayulu on the opening score in Paris, he then scored his first goal in the colors of PSG with a clear right-footed strike which left Dominik Greif no chance.

A success finally in front of the goal

A liberating performance for the Belgian winger, who did not hide his satisfaction in the mixed zone after the match. “It’s good to have scored and helped the team. I just wanted to help the team. What if I was waiting for this goal? Even before that, I am calm. I try to work every day. And when the coach needs me, I’m there to help the team. I’m happy, when you’re a striker you want to score and help with goals.”he explained. Happy to have finally unlocked his score in his new club, Godts also wanted to emphasize the importance of those around him in his adaptation. “It’s good to score here, I’m happy. I feel good in the team, they help me on and off the pitch. When I scored, I thought of my family, my wife, they are important to me and it is thanks to them that I can work hard. »

For his part, Senny Mayulu did not fail to praise the performance of his teammate, with whom he combined perfectly to open the score. “I’m happy for him, we have a good connection. But it’s with everyone, we’re a family. So I’m happy that Godts passed me and scored, it’ll do him good.”confided the young Parisian midfielder in the mixed zone. An evening which could mark a turning point in Mika Godts’ Parisian adventure. Until now struggling to find his place in the offensive rotation, the Belgian finally showed what he could bring to Luis Enrique’s collective. While PSG must deal with several major absences in attack, this performance comes at the best time. It is now up to him to confirm to prove that he can become a real offensive solution for the coming weeks.
