On the eve of the clash between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona on behalf of the 3rd day of the league phase of the Champions League, concern is spreading among some of the Catalan press. And for good reason, beyond the sporting issue of this European poster, it is above all the security context in France which raises questions. The violence that occurred this Saturday, October 17 on the sidelines of the mobilizations against the high cost of living, indeed left its mark and fueled the fears of several Spanish media.

As the Parisians prepare to welcome the Catalans to the Parc des Princes, the atmosphere surrounding the French capital is closely scrutinized from the other side of the Pyrenees. In its columns, the Catalan press is particularly concerned about the consequences of these excesses on the stay of supporters and the Barcelona delegation in Paris. “A Paris in flames awaits Flick’s Barça”indicated in particular Mundo Deportivo these last few hours before detailing: “France and its capital are currently the scene of serious unrest. The demonstrations, led by the ‘yellow vests’, led to significant disruptions of public order..

PSG-Barça is not threatened

For Spanish observers, the issue now is whether the conditions will be met so that supporters can fully enjoy the event, without security concerns taking over. “FC Barcelona will have to deal with a climate of strong social tensions in Paris”adds, for its part, the daily Sporteven calling into question the possible continuation of this shock: “the evolution of the situation and the security measures taken by the authorities will be key factors to follow closely before the arrival of the Barcelona team and its supporters”. A few minutes ago, however, the Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez, broke his silence.

“The question does not arise for (Tuesday) evening’s match between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona” And “for other matches which may take place in the European Cup”reassured the politician before insisting: “the matches are not called into question”. Despite the concerns relayed in Spain, the match remains scheduled for this Tuesday at 9 p.m., at the Parc des Princes. Note, finally, that despite the 2,200 Barcelona supporters expected in the French capital and the electric climate present, the meeting is not classified as “high risk” by the DNLH police officers. For PSG as for Barça, the objective will now be to maintain concentration on the pitch and make this poster a major event in European football. See you in a little over 24 hours…
